Blazon Scientific is owned by me, Thomas Solomon, PhD. I'm a freelance medical writer and data scientist specialising in scientific publications.
I provide medical writing, evidence synthesis, and data analysis services to support pharmaceutical, biotech, medical, and academic scientists, as well as digital health companies and science communication outlets.

Earlier in my career, I held Associate Professor posts at the University of Birmingham and the University of Copenhagen, where I led multidisciplinary research teams, supervised and mentored trainees, wrote ethical review board and clinical trial protocols, designed and executed clinical studies, secured competitive research grant funding, led peer review and editing tasks, and published extensively, with over 90 publications.
In 2019, after approximately 15 years in academia, I left my academic post to start Blazon Scientific and provide medical writing, evidence synthesis, and data analysis services. I now have over 6 years of experience as a freelance consultant and have partnered with companies, lab groups, and individual scientists across Europe, Canada, and the United States.
My work has spanned manuscripts, abstracts, grant proposals, clinical trial protocols, evidence synthesis, systematic literature reviews, and end-to-end data analysis projects — including biostatistics, statistical programming, and data science — for pharmaceutical, biotech, and university researchers, as well as scientific writing projects for digital health companies and science communication outlets.
My specialist expertise is in metabolism, biochemistry, nutrition, and exercise science, with a focus on cardiometabolic diseases, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. However, I can provide services across a broad range of health and medical sciences, and have worked on projects on cancer, immunology, inflammation, neurological diseases (dementia, Alzheimer's), heart disease, reproductive health, and food/dietary supplements.
